Pen and paper studies
In the field, field staff check completed questionnaires immediately after interviews to ensure that all questions are answered and all skips are followed;
The checked questionnaires are then handed to field managers who, whilst in the field, perform a second quality check on each questionnaire. On completion of each area questionnaires are handed over to the 33 FIFTY office; Dedicated quality control teams check every questionnaire handed in from field;
Once the QC manager is satisfied with the quality of the questionnaires, they are transferred to the Data Department for double data capture. QC personnel will also conduct random physical and telephonic call-backs / back-checks on about 10% of the questionnaires. This back-check process allows the client greater certainty over the results and provides an opportunity to collect feedback from a sample of respondents. To ensure independence in back-checking, the QC staff operate separately from the field staff. Callbacks are conducted using pre-numbered call-back sheets containing pre-drafted questions. Permanent QC staff audit all these forms and submit them to 33 FIFTY for a final a check-back report. 33 FIFTY is 100% confident in the integrity of their back-check processes.
Electronic Face to face studies
In electronic-based studies, as fieldworkers conduct data collection in field, they capture responses on electronic gadgets. This has the advantage of quality control and also eliminates data capturing time. Every supervisor checks all interviews conducted under his/her supervision for correctness and completeness and to conduct back checks before submitting them to 33 FIFTY office.
The 33 FIFTY office conducts four levels (Telephonic, Personal, GPS coordinates and listening to audios) of back-checking the interviews conducted by data collectors to verify whether the correct sampling procedures and interviewing techniques were followed.
Telephonic back checks, 10% cross back checking of interviews while a permanent 33 FIFTY Fieldwork Coordinator and a Fieldwork Manager, conducts a further 20% back-checking on completed interviews. The back checking is spread proportionally among all supervisors. If 10% of a particular interviewer work is incorrect, 100% full back check will be conducted.
Personal back checks, random personal back checks will be conducted by the field manager to ensure that the correct respondent we interviewed by the field agents. This assist I making sure that the quality of the collected data meets the required standards.
Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates back checking, all our studies are conducted online and our data collection tool captures GPS coordinates of all completed interviews in the field. The quality control manager will check each and every completed interview against the sampled areas to ensure that the samples respondents were interviewed.
Audio back checking, the software that we utilize to collect data can be set to record audio on specific questions or for the entire interview. This enables us to download the audios and listen to the completed interviews to ascertain that there was a respondent and an interviewer and indeed that the interviews are legit.
Basically, all completed interviews goes through all the above stages to ensure that the final data is of good quality and the correct respondents were interviewed.
