Recruitment and selection of personnel

We have the ability to recruit and provide skills-based training to previously disadvantaged persons and offer them employment once the training is completed. Remuneration of personnel is based on the duration of the project as we do not keep full time staff (Due to the nature of the business). The firm provides above average remuneration for exceptional work done, project-based incentives and on ad-hoc projects.

33 FIFTY’s experience is also in community preparation for to inform and raise study awareness in communities, through relevant community leaders, stating the benefits thereof, objectives and company contact persons etc.

Regional managers, research assistants, field teams, field managers, quality assurance personnel and data managers attend briefings on research intentions and are trained on how to apply the research tools and instruments, and ethical issues relevant to each study. Training sessions are designed to be interactive and utilize different training techniques to ensure that all aspects of the tools and study protocol is grasped as outlined in the manual.

Training manuals include amongst other elements:

relevant information about each phase of the study; a reference guide for the questionnaire to maintain continuity and consistency of interviews; guides to interviewing techniques and skills; a synopsis of the overall study so that field workers can answer participants questions; and any other information relevant to study

Training for all includes:

1. Background and objectives of the study;

2. Skills specific to interviewing children, including sensitivity & ethics training;

3. Informed consent of participants and special groups e.g. Parents/guardians/caregivers;

4. Protocol for referral of respondents;

5. Methodology training and discussion;

6. Instrument training and discussion (consent & questionnaire);

7. Feedback from the pilot study will be integrated into the training;

8. Role plays, mock interviews and question and answer sessions;

9. Review of translated instruments for accuracy;

10. In-field piloting including feedback sessions and follow-up training;

11. All trainees tested for competency and 100% attendance requirement.

Additional training for Field Managers covers the following:

1. Role as supervisors;

2. Sampling techniques to be used;

3. Mechanisms for supporting interviewers;

4. Follow up on non-responses;

5. Quality control protocols, spot checks and disciplinary actions;

6. Responding to youth requiring assistance.
